What’s
the point in spending a myriad of hours researching and carefully crafting content
that will not be seen by anyone?
Promoting
your blog can help you increase your audience and views as well as get the
necessary feedback to improve your blog. As a communicator, feedback is very
important because it lets you know how effective your communication is and if
the message got across as you intended it to.
There are more than 100 ways that you can promote your
blog and content but here is a non-overwhelming list to start with especially
for beginners, we all have to start somewhere.
I used most of
these tips when I was just beginning in the world of fashion illustration blogging
and although not consistent, I managed to get my blog to 13,340 views.
1.
Share content on social media
Sharing links to your content on social media is one
of the ways to promote your blog. Just make sure that the link leads to resourceful
information. It is so easy for your
links to be considered spam If not done well. If possible come up with a
schedule on how you will distribute your content across various channels such
as the one below from Buffer:
2.
Read and comment on other blogs
This was
always the second thing I did immediately after publishing. I found that it
helps to read blogs that are close to
your niche, for instance I was posting fashion illustrations so, I mostly
visited fashion blogs because they were easier to relate to. It would be a bit
difficult for you to leave a meaningful comment on say a tech blog if your area
of interest is fashion.
In addition, make sure you actually read the content on
the site you plan on leaving your post link because that will encourage the
other blogger to visit you and return the favor.
By commenting on other blogs you get referral
traffic which according to Techwalla is used to describe
visitors to your site that come from direct links on other websites rather than
directly or from searches.
3.
Ping your blog
Pinging is
basically informing search engines like Google
and blog directories that you have updated or have new content on your blog.
4.
Submit your comment
in blogging groups/communities
Blogging communities
are a great place to promote your blog content and connect with other bloggers
within your niche. When I was a fashion blogger, I was part of a community
called Independent Fashion Bloggers which contributed greatly to the growth of
my blog (it wasn’t massive growth like 555, 393 views but good enough for a
rookie blogger). Some blogging
communities you can join are Growth Hackers and BlogEngage.
publishing
more content has a number of benefits for your blog, not only will visitors
have more content to read but also the more content you have, the more likely
you are to appear in searches.
Research
by Hubspot showed that Companies that
published 16+ blog posts per month got almost 3.5X more traffic than
companies that published between 0 - 4 monthly posts.
Also publishing
more posts means that you will have more content to share on social media
channels which drive traffic back to your site. A blogging case study by
Tresnic media: 50 posts in 25 days revealed that website traffic increased
immediately because of the social sharing.
7. Promote
your blog on Quora
Quora is a great
tool, as in my previous post on how 6 East Ways To Find New Blog Post Ideas, I listed
it as one of the ways to generate ideas.
Quora is a filled
with people looking for answers to different topics. You can promote your blog
by being an active member and sharing reliable and resourceful content which
will eventually drive traffic back to your blog.
